News about ReUseIt Center

200 tons! We have pass the 200 ton mark for items sold! Thank you! We will be celebrating next Saturday, June 9, from 10-5 with refreshments for all of our valued customers.

4/23-5/25 Join us as we help SCARCE in Glen Ellyn to collect gym shoes for their Gym Shoe Rescue! Tie your old gym shoes together and bring them with you when you shop (no cleats, spikes or non-gym shoes, please). SCARCE redirects reusable shoes to those who need them all over the world. Shoes that cannot be reused are sent to Nike where they are turned into playground surfaces through their NikeGo program. If you are able, bring in an old cell phone to help offset their shipping costs. Last year, they sent 30 pallets of shoes to Nike for recycling and were able to reuse 1,124 pairs of shoes. This year their goal is to collect 10,000 pairs of shoes.

With your help, we collected 36.5 pairs of shoes!

4/13/07 Jefferson Junior High School stopped by for a visit as part of a field trip. They listened to a presentation about ReUseIt from store manager Bill Coleman. They also got a grand tour of what we have in the warehouse.

On the nationally designated Make a Difference Day, volunteers from the real estate office will don hard hats and grab their crow bars, ready to assist the staff of the ReUseIt Center to salvage useable materials from buildings scheduled for teardown.

These salvaged materials will be sorted and displayed for sale at ReUseIt's 8,000-square-foot warehouse retail outlet at 1530 Hubbard Ave., Batavia. The center provides low-priced new and used building materials to area residents.

On Make a Difference Day, ReUseIt Center will be open from 10 am to 5 p.m. It is also open from 10 am to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays and noon to 3 p.m. Sundays.
